Shuttles back to your vehicle are included for all trips booked with Durango River Trips. This information is for private river runners looking to run one of the most continous stretches of whitewater in the U.S. the Upper Animas, Class V.
After running the Upper Animas over 10 years I will reveal the best way to deal with the train and logistics for running the Upper A.
Leave as many of your vehicles at the train station in Durango, or better yet, to avoid the most uninteresting and tedious part (and by uninteresting and tedious part I mean you are going to walk out on the train tracks 3 miles) of the train ride, leave said vehicles at the Rockwood train station about 15 miles north of Durango.
If you are wealthy or a train freak you will be riding the train with your gear to Rockwood or Durango. If you are a normal boater you will save that money for beer and place only your boating gear on the train and walk out the 3 miles to your cars at Rockwood and then go pick up your gear in Durango.
The most economical way then to be shuttled is to have the least number of vehicles possible going to the put-in at Silverton (9300') because you are going to have to pay for a driver to accompany you for each vehicle being brought back to Rockwood or Durango.
It is 60 miles one way of winding mountain road, so it is safe to say 3 hrs of driving round trip for your shuttle bunny. Plus an hour probably at the put-in while you get rigged. 4 hours, who works for less than $25/hour these days? That's right $100/car. Still interested call James at 970-903-9428.
