The Durango River Trips difference.
This is a Class II scenic float trip through an incredibly beautiful valley just 12 miles north of Durango. It is about 6 miles long and takes about 2 hours door to door. If that sounds familiar to the trips IN Durango, it is. The difference is the lack of crowds, having your own professionally guided raft not shared with strangers, and a trip oriented towards communing with the river rather than challenging it.
My goal is to conduct trips that emphasize the beauty of the surroundings with the focus on wildlife, natural history, geology, local history and good conversation while floating down the "river of lost souls," the Animas. I have been guiding trips since 1995 from coast to coast and have made Durango my home since 1998. I believe this type of a trip is a much needed counterpoint to the hyped and adrenaline oriented "whitewater" river experience in Durango.
(1) You will not be joining the masses with dozen upon dozens of rafts with hundreds of people.
(2)Your family and friends will not be crammed into a raft with strangers.
(3)Your river trip will not be a McRafting experience that has more similarities with Disney World than what you expect from Colorado.
(4)Simply put, you, your family, your friends, whoever you want, will have your own professionally guided raft. Oh yeah, and there will never be more than 2 rafts on a trip.
Sincerely,
James Wilkes
